The local American Legion usually places flags in downtown Alva for the patriotic holidays like Veteran's Day or the 4th of July. Post 92 Commander Scotty Cox made the executive decision to place the flags around the square April 4. A post on social media states, "We place the flags in hopes of building strength among those in our community.
