Alva City Inspector Derrick Courson is filing in at the Alva Regional Airport while the city searches for a new airport manager. He reported to the Airport Commission Monday night.

The City of Alva is taking applications for the manager of the Alva Regional Airport. Greg Robison's last day in that position was Sept. 4. Information about the job requirements is available on the city's website, alvaok.org, under the Departments category.

During the Airport Commission meeting Monday night, City Business Manager Angelica Brady said that City Inspector Derrick Courson has been filling in at the airport in addition to his regular duties. Courson had some previous experience at the airport. A part-time employee has been hired to cover the airport at times so Courson can handle his duties as city inspector.

Courson gave a brief report to commission members, telling about some problems with the courtesy car and the avgas truck. He said he has been slowly keeping up with the mowing. Commission Chairman Dale Logsdon told him the grass was looking really good.

Courson said the level of avgas is less than 2,000 gallons so he has been watching prices to get the best deal for the Alva airport. He's also looking into getting new windsocks. Logsdon told him the airport can get free ones from the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission.

The written report shows the airport sold 1,579.2 gallons of 100 LL fuel for $5,369.28 during August and 1,527 gallons of Jet-A fuel for $5,039.10. Overnight hangar rentals brought in $45. Adding a small amount in oil sales, the airport had $12,523.18 total sales in August.

In addition to Logsdon, airport commission members attending the meeting were Paul Kinzie, Kelly Parker and Caleb Mosburg. Terry Turner was absent.

Financials & Airport CD

Brady reported progress on the city's cash balance which was $365,000 at the end of August. She said the city is putting back five percent of sales tax collections to repay the amount borrowed from airport funds.

Mayor Parker said the airport has a $57,000 certificate of deposit (CD) up for renewal. He asked if the commission members want to reinvest the funds in a CD and what they want to do with interest earned. Brady said the CD had been invested for 24 months.

Kinzie made a motion, seconded by Mosburg, to reinvest the funds including interest earned in a CD for 24 months at the best rate. Roll was called and the motion carried.

Parker said City Treasurer Trent Goss will "shop it out" to get the best rate he can.

Executive Session

The airport commission members went into executive session to meet behind closed doors in the conference room about the hiring of an airport manager. After a fairly long session, they returned to the open meeting but took no action on a new manager.
