Alva Community Theatre, Inc. opens the 2021 summer season with "Steel Magnolias" June 17, 18 and 19 at 8 p.m.

Filled with witty banter and friendly insults, "Steel Magnolias" humorously reveals the conflicts and bonds among a group of Southern women in Chinquapin Parish, Louisiana. Written by Robert Harling, the stage play is based on his experience with the community of "strong as steel" women who supported him following his sister's death.

The play is set in Truvy's beauty salon, the local go-to destination for pampering, gossiping and unsolicited advice. Truvy's assistant, Annelle, is fresh out of beauty school and eager to please the regulars: M'Lynn, bride-to-be daughter Shelby, town curmudgeon Ouiser and the former mayor's cheerful widow, Clairee. With the help of Annelle, the outspoken Truvy provides her clients with hairdos and manicures, plus a sanctuary for sharing their personal stories.

The cast includes: Ann Kline as Truvy Jones, Mandi Schoenhals as Annelle Dupuy-Desoto, Hannah Mason as Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie, Trayce Quinlan as Ouiser Boudreaux, Kathi Jenlink as M'Lynn Eatenton and Leslie Nutter as Clairee Belcher.

"We hope you'll join us for our first production since February 2020," said Director Thamazin Harrison. "It's been a delight to see our actors return to the stage in this funny and heartwarming story about the bonds of friendship and the strength of women."

Reservations may be made by calling 580-327-2610 or tickets are available for purchase at the door.
