A minor episode from the past, part 6

 


While trying to obtain a New Mexico driver’s license, I had run into a problem. I had to figure out how to replace a defective headlight without driving my car.

Then the state trooper responsible for giving me the driving exam told me that I could drive the car to get the headlight fixed – even though my old license had expired!

The first thought that crossed my mind was that it was a trap. I was afraid that the minute I moved the car the slightest distance, she would write me a ticket.

Nevertheless, I got into the car, started it, fastened my seat belt, and began driving toward the parking lo...
