Stewart Ott, 30 of Kiowa, died in a single vehicle rollover Friday morning, according to Kansas Highway Patrol Charley Brattain. Ott's friends reported to the Newsgram that he was on his way to work early.

A call came to the Barber County Sheriff's Office at 8:53 a.m. that a passerby came upon the wreck. Officer Brattain estimates the wreck happened a few hours earlier.

It was raining on and off in those hours. The accident happened on a dirt road. The location was on Bethel Road, 1295 feet north of Scott Canyon Road or 1.8 miles south of Gerlane Road that is northwest of Kiowa, Kansas. Officer Brattain said cause of the accident is presently weather-related and road conditions.

Ott was southbound on Bethel Road in a 2004 Jeep Wrangler. The vehicle traveled off the roadway to the east, rotated counter clockwise and overturned on its top, according to the accident report.

The trooper said Ott was not wearing a seatbelt and was “partially ejected.” He died of massive injuries, suspected mainly internal, at the scene, according to Brattain who said the coroner requested an autopsy.

Besides the KHP, others responding to the scene included: the Barber County Sheriff's Department, the Kiowa Police Department; Kiowa EMS and Fire.

A funeral service is planned for Ott this Wednesday at 2 p.m., at South Barber High School where he graduated.
