We will read the Gospel of John this week. John begins verse 1 by stating “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John writes to establish that Jesus is the Messiah, the One who was promised in prophecy, the One whom the Jews had been anticipating for centuries. The Jewish leaders of this time, the Pharisees and others were looking for a king, not a servant. They were expecting an earthly kingdom with great power.
