Alva Ladybugs take down Chisholm in season opener

December 3, 2021

The Alva Ladybugs under the direction of new head coach Kris Gore are off to a great start. They began the season with a decisive 53-27 victory over the Chisholm Lady Longhorns Tuesday night at Chisholm.

By the end of the first quarter, the Alva team was up 12-3, and they continued to lead by at least double digits for the rest of the game. At halftime, the Alva team led 26-11. Carly Argo hit a triple at the buzzer to end the third quarter, putting the Ladybugs up 40-21. Both teams substituted players from the bench to finish out the game with the 53-27 final.

The Ladybugs didn’t have a stellar percentage making baskets, but they made up for it by taking a lot of shots. Meanwhile, the Alva team kept the Lady Longhorns away from the goal. Their top shooters were closely guarded. Alice Watkins scored 11 while Grace Winter was held to four.

Plenty of Ladybugs scored with two in double figures. Brooke Perez led with 15 followed by Hallie Hamilton with 10. Carly Argo, Chloe Durkee and Morgan Heath scored six points each. Lakin Gaddy and Jacie Kelln had four apiece. Mary Kate Foster rounded out the scoring with two.

The Ladybugs will be on the road tonight as they travel to Newkirk. Their first home game will be Tuesday, Dec. 7, as they take on Blackwell for homecoming. The Alva-NWOSU Shootout begins Thursday with both the varsity and JV Ladybugs participating.
