Several races develop in county elections

Filing opened Wednesday for candidates in the Nov. 8 General Election. The primary will be held June 28, and if a runoff is needed that will be on Aug. 23.

The following candidates had filed by Thursday afternoon:

Woods County

County Assessor: Renetta Benson (Republican).

County Treasurer: Rachel Spellman-Hughes (Republican)

County Commissioner, District 1: David Hamil (Republican)

County Commissioner, District 3: John Smiley (Republican), Jim Hofer (Republican), John M. Evans (Republican) and Matthew Smith (Democrat)

Alfalfa County

County Assessor: Jennifer C. Roach (Republican)

County Treasurer: Donna Irvin (Republican) and Shana Wells (Republican)

County Commissioner, District 1: Chuck Green (Republican), Tyler Mead (Republican), Garret Johnson (Republican) and Jay Hague (Republican)

County Commissioner, District 2: Nate Ross (Republican), Alton Jackson (Republican) and Ron Nickel (Republican)


In other filings, Justin P. Eilers of Mooreland filed for District 4 Judge, Office 1, Loren E. Angle of Burlington filed for Associate District Judge for Alfalfa County, Mickey J. Hadwiger of Alva filed for Associate District Judge for Woods County, and Carl W. Newton of Cherokee has filed for District 58 State Representative.

Candidate filing will continue until 5 p.m. today (Friday).
