April 22, 2022

Anyone interested in learning more about the inaugural Nescatunga Arts Festival Sugar Show happening in Alva on Saturday, June 4, should attend an informational meeting on Monday, April 25, at 6 p.m. in the Alva Public Library.

April Ridgway, secretary for the Nescatunga Arts and Humanities Council, is heading up this new competition during the 51st Nescatunga Arts Festival on Alva’s downtown square.

“If you love creating art with flour, sugar and imagination, we want you to enter,” Ridgway said. “The show will be an opportunity for you to show your skills as a cake, cookie or cupcake artist in a fun, competitive environment.”

Bakers may enter a decorated cake with at least two tiers, a dozen decorated cookies or a dozen decorated cupcakes to be judged on appearance and taste.

“It doesn’t matter what your skill level is because you will compete against bakers who are at your same level,” Ridgway said.

Bakers may enter as a professional, aspiring artist or student.

Professionals may enter non-edible cakes, while aspiring artists and students may enter edible cakes.

To learn more about this opportunity, please visit http://www.nescatunga.org/sugar-show or contact Ridgway at 580-917-0101.
