Evan Vaverka (seated in center) is surrounded by middle and high school students recently competing in a regional qualifier for Super Smash Brothers Ultimate in the Northwestern Esports arena. Another qualifier will take place on campus on Nov. 10.

Thanks to a grant from the NRA Foundation Friends of NRA program, the Woods County 4-H Shooting Sports Program received $1,400 to purchase needed supplies to assist in providing educational information on the use of firearms and competition resources. "We are very excited about the Woods County 4-H Shooting Sports Program," said Dustin Rankin, Woods County 4-H shooting sports volunteer leader "and pleased that the NRA is making an investment in our community that will benefit our youth."

Torin Brooks and Ko Brooks, members of the Woods County 4-H, participate in the 4-H Air Rifle Contest.

The grant funds were used by the Woods County 4-H Shooting Sports program to provide all interested 4-H youth the opportunity to participate in the program regardless of their economic situation. These funds were utilized to supply ammunition, targets, archery equipment and support supplies for the entire shooting sports program. This support allowed youth to increase their participation in the overall shooting sports program.

Friends of NRA is a grassroots fund-raising program that fosters community involvement to organize and, with help from NRA field staff, plan community events for firearms enthusiasts. All net proceeds from Friends of NRA events are allocated to the NRA Foundation, the leading charitable organization in support of the shooting sports. Through NRA Foundation grants for equipment, training materials, range improvements, and more, qualified local, state, and national programs receive aid to involve and inspire a new generation of competitive shooters.
