Woodward man dies in fatal collision

Alva driver treated and released

A two-vehicle collision in Alfalfa County on Tuesday took the life of a Woodward man. Michael Derek Hasten, 35, of Woodward, was pronounced dead at the scene from whole body injuries by the Helena EMS. The wreck occurred about 5:10 p.m. on OK-45 at the intersection of County Road 650, located one-half mile south and 0.4 mile west of Helena.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol report, Hasten was driving a 2023 Hyundai Elantra southbound on County Road 650. Jesse Caris Jones, 45, of Alva, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Suburban westbound on State Highway 45. Hasten failed to stop at the stop sign, and Jones’ vehicle struck the Hasten vehicle on the driver side.

Jones was transported by private vehicle to Integris Bass Baptist Health Center in Enid where he was treated for head and leg injuries and released.

Trooper Randy McCullough investigated the scene, assisted by Cpt. Ken Jordan, Lt. Brock Morgan, Trooper Donald Kraft, Trooper Trent Cagle, Trooper James Crowder, Alfalfa County Sheriff’s Office, Helena Police Department, James Crabtree Correctional personnel, Helena EMS and Helena Fire Department.
