Alva Mayor Kelly Parker reported Monday on the breaks in the 16-inch line that brings water from the wellfield to Alva. He said there were a total of five breaks from south of Hopeton to the airport on Friday, Dec. 16. The city council held an emergency meeting Friday afternoon to approve hiring Orr Construction to help with the repairs. The work by the contract crews was estimated to cost $40,000 to $75,000. At the time of the city council meeting Dec. 19, the amount of the bill was not known.
