Woods County OHCE met Monday, May 8, for its annual Spring Council meeting. The meeting was held in conjunction with the celebration of OHCE Week, May 7-13. As part of the OHCE State Project on Hunger, members brought non-perishable food items for local Blessing Boxes.

Twenty-nine members enjoyed a salad supper and then held the business meeting. President Janet Cunningham called the meeting to order with Janice Litton leading the group in the flag salute and the OHCE Creed. Paula McMurphy presented the devotion. Maureen Thomas led the group in singing "God Bless America." As secretary she handled roll call with the following groups reporting attendance: Household Executives, 6 of 7; Grow and Share, 8 of 16; Better Homes, 5 of 14; Patchwork Friends, 4 of 8; and Lone Star, 5 of 12 and At Large, 1. Thomas also read the minutes from Achievement Night held in February and they were approved as read. Treasurer Paula McMurphy presented the treasurer's report.

Old business included discussion of reimbursement for door prizes for the West District (North Region) OHCE meeting held in March. Cunningham thanked members for attending the Woods County Commissioners meeting where a proclamation declaring OHCE Week was signed earlier in the day.

Under new business the group discussed a lighting request for the Women's Building to be presented to the Woods County Fair Board. Members were asked to consider volunteering for a reporter position. Vicki Logsdon, representing Better Homes and the County Resource Management committee, talked about a successful project on recycling held recently with Scribner Salvage. Janet encouraged members to stop by the public library to see a month-long display on Woods County OHCE and also one by Patchwork Friends. Both of these exhibits celebrate OHCE Week. April Decker brought painted rocks depicting OHCE topics and membership information.

Charla Turner, Lone Star OHCE, gave a report on the OHCE District Meeting held in Enid in March.

To focus awareness on the OHCE State Project on Hunger, Susan Holliday, OSU Extension educator, presented information on Gulp and Gallop, a local program held to feed children during the summer. She encouraged OHCE members to volunteer.

The meeting adjourned to the Fall Council to be held on Oct. 16.
