South Barber's back-to-school rally electrifying

August 23, 2023

"To the left to the left ..." the popular line dance music was blaring when South Barber students walked into the gym for their Back to School Rally. Students of all ages joined the cheerleaders on the floor to dance like no one was watching.

With new 7-12 Principal Steve Neal, a host of new teachers in the district and the longtime teachers and staff who help keep everything going, the gym rocked. Students, teachers, staff and members of the public couldn't help but smile. Superintendent Dr. Mylo Miller, Principal Neal and Elementary Principal Kaynette Scheck recognized the entire crew that makes South Barber prosper. Grade School children screamed at the top of their lungs when their teacher was introduced.

Miller introduced and thanked members of the community who have been so generous with their time and money to the school: First State Bank, a branch of Alva State, for purchasing supplies; Jeff Bryan for his many donations to the school and continual effort to better the community that landed him the Chieftain Award; and the John and Shana Coggins family for paying for the Lady Chieftains basketball camp and painting and work in the locker room.

Superintendent and Principal Honor Roll recipients from the 4th Quarter of last school year were recognized. The entire hour long rally was fast-paced and fun. The new high school cheer squad led the crowd in cheers and dances.
