A Waynoka man was injured in a motorcycle wreck on Saturday. Douglas Schmidt, 38, of Waynoka, was transported from the scene by private vehicle to Share Medical Center in Alva and later transferred to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City where he was admitted in stable condition with head and trunk internal injuries.

The wreck occurred at 7:36 p.m. on Aug. 26 on County Road 290, three-tenths of a mile north of the intersection with Comanche Road. The location is three miles west and four miles north of Waynoka.

Schmidt was driving a 1975 Kawasaki 250 northbound on County Road 290. According to the report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, he was traveling too fast for the roadway conditions and lost control of the vehicle, causing the motorcycle to overturn and come to rest in the roadway.

The report states Schmidt was not wearing a helmet and had an odor associated with alcoholic beverage.

Trooper Justin Barney investigated, assisted by Trooper Kris Franta, Woods County Sheriff’s Office and Waynoka EMS.
