Special meetings Tuesday on synthetic turf bids, hotel tax ordinance

September 24, 2023

Three special city meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 26. At 12:30 p.m. the Alva Parks and Recreation Board will meet to consider bids received for the installation of synthetic turf on baseball and softball infields. The meeting will be in the Pete and Ruth Leslie Fieldhouse at the Alva Recreation Complex.

At 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the Alva City Council will hold a special meeting to consider approval of the amendment to Hotel Tax also known as the tourism tax. City Business Manager Steve Ford communicated councilmember concerns to his contact at the Oklahoma Tax Commission (OTC). The OTC sent back their recommendation defining the term “permanent resident”. The city hopes to get the ordinance amendment approved so the OTC can begin collecting the hotel tax in October on behalf of Alva.

Following the city council meeting, the Alva Economic Development Authority (AEDA) will meet in the council chambers at City Hall. The AEDA is composed of city council members and presided over by the mayor. The AEDA will consider the recommendation of the Parks and Recreation Board from the earlier meeting on synthetic turf bids. The AEDA oversees the funds received from the one-half percent sales tax designated for parks and recreation (formerly Alva Recreation Complex).
