Freedom School Board passes election resolution for two board seats in special meeting

October 18, 2023

In a special meeting held in a classroom rather than the library as is usual, the board's business was brief and to the point. The main business of the day was the school board member election resolution.

The meeting got underway with board members Phil Kirkpatrick, Robert Babcock and BJ Baker present, along with Superintendent Freida Burgess and Principal/Minutes Clerk Bryant Weber.

The board approved the consent agenda, consisting of past meeting minutes; the treasurer's and activity fund reports; encumbrances for the general, building and child nutrition funds; and signing warrants for those same funds.

Also approved was the 2024 schedule of board meetings; generally, the meetings will be held on the third Monday of the month at 7 p.m.

The board then addressed the annual School Board Member Election Resolution. Superintendent Burgess had the resolution in hand and showed it to the board.

“We will have School Board Member No. 4, which is Robert's (Babcock) seat, and then we'll have B.J.'s which is an unexpired term for four years. So we have a resolution calling for a board election on the third and fourth seats. Registration (to file for candidacy) is Dec. 4-6.”

Superintendent Burgess presented the College and Career Readiness Report and the Dropout Report, put out by the State Department of Education. “This is for the school year 2021-23,” she said, and went on to say that Freedom Schools had no dropouts to report and no students required remediation that year. The board accepting the findings.

After signing the required paperwork, the meeting adjourned – seven minute after convening.
