A memorial service for Dottie Gatz will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva.

Dottie Sue Hada, daughter of the late David Leroy and Thelma Joyce (Rader) Hada, was born November 3, 1949, at Hardtner, Kansas, and passed away December 2, 2023, at her home with her husband by her side at the age of 74 years and 29 days.

She grew up in Hardtner, Kansas, graduating from Hardtner High School. She went on to graduate from Northwestern Oklahoma State College with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. In June of 1969, she was united in marriage to Charles Gray. To this union, three children were born, Travis, Kevin, and Amanda. They lived in San Diego, California, and Topeka, Kansas, before making their home in Parsons, Kansas.

Dottie was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was the church secretary for a time. On April 20, 1984, she was united in marriage to Joe Gatz at the First United Methodist Church. She later worked as an administrative assistant at Share Medical Center. Dottie was also very active with the OHCE Trendsetters and Patchwork Friends Extension groups for nearly 40 years and was a member of the United Methodist Women.


Besides her parents, David and Thelma, she was preceded in death by her son, Kevin Gray; and her sisters, Jerrianne Hada and Kathleen Ethington.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Joe Gatz of Alva; her son, Travis Gray of Norman; her daughter, Amanda Cushing and husband, Marc, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; four grandchildren, Lauren Parrish and husband, Connor, of Lone Grove, Ashleigh Gray of Norman, Hannah Cushing and Ellie Cushing, both of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; other relatives and friends.


In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to be made in Dottie's honor to the Alva United Methodist Women or OHCE Patchwork Friends.
