  • GOP's focus on Trump leaves scant room for Congress hopefuls

    ALAN FRAM and THOMAS BEAUMONT|Aug 27, 2020

WASHINGTON (AP) — All national political conventions are ultimately about the presidential candidate. That's especially true at this year's Republican National Convention, where leading speakers demonstrated a single-minded focus on President Donald Trump but barely mentioned the party's struggle to protect its Senate majority and gain ground in the House. Halfway through the four nights, the parade of speakers that's unswervingly extolled Trump — including his own children — and other tactics that veer from typical convention norms have under...

  • Moana's voice, Auliʻi Cravalho takes the next step

    LINDSEY BAHR|Aug 27, 2020

Auliʻi Cravalho's life changed forever at age 14 when she was cast as the voice of Disney's "Moana." The Hawaiian native loved singing and acting, but they were just hobbies to her. So were horseback riding, swimming and microbiology, for that matter. A career in Hollywood seemed implausible at best. "But life decided to surprise me," said Cravalho, who went from obscurity to performing at the Oscars in just a few months. Now at 19, Cravalho is checking off another milestone: Her first live-action film, "All Together Now," is being released...

    GARY GERARD HAMILTON|Aug 27, 2020

NEW YORK (AP) — When Brandy began crafting her newest album nearly three years ago, her intent was both benevolent and selfish. She wanted to give R&B fans the timeless music she's been synonymous with, while also gain liberation from emotional bondage. She achieved her goal with "B7" — but she wasn't prepared for the raw and emotional way the lyrics poured out of her during the creative process. It's why, for the first time, the Grammy winner co-wrote every song on the album and co-produced the majority of the project. "This is a hea...
