  • Everyone needs a mentor

Steve Hamm, College Hill Church of Christ|Oct 3, 2025

You know, it’s hard to get through life totally on your own. When we’re young growing up, we have our parents to guide us into becoming adults, making good and sound decisions for our betterment. When we’re grown up, or at least we think we are, we still need someone to guide us in our careers making good and sound decisions to better ourselves. It is a very wise thing to seek and even take the advice of someone who is experienced and knows more than we do in any particular area, we call them a mentor. I remember my father giving me advic...

  • Watch for wolves

Rev. Taylor Anderson, Alva First United Methodist Church|Sep 26, 2025

At the United Methodist Church here in Alva, we have been talking about what it means to be a witness for God in today’s world. It’s a challenging thing for many reasons. Most people prefer to be silent witnesses, simply observing and learning but not taking the uncomfortable step of proclaiming the truth of God’s Kingdom. This last Sunday we looked at Matthew 10: 7, 16-22, as we talked about some of the dangers that exist in our world for those that proclaim the true Gospel (Good News) that Jesus brought to us. In Matthew 10, Jesus is prepa...

  • That's all folks!

Steve Hamm, College Hill Church of Christ|Sep 26, 2025

This phrase was made famous from the Looney Tunes franchise many years ago when Porky Pig would sign off each episode. It basically means that’s all there is, there aren’t any more cartoon, meaning “it’s the end”. God has promised us that there will be an end to this world as we know it. He has set a date that no one knows, not even His son Jesus knows, when he will be sent to harvest believers from this earth and be glorified to the entire universe, and then the judgment. Many people over the millennia have tried to set that date calculating f...

  • Why we pray

Pastor John Clapp, Bible Baptist Church|Sep 19, 2025

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philipiians 4:6-7). On Aug. 27, former White House press secretary Jen Psaki commented on the reaction of many Christians reacting with prayer as we all learned of the horrific school shooting in Minnesota. Her words were, “Prayer is not freaking enoug...

  • The cure for greed: Finding freedom in God's care

Pastor Charles Wells, Alva Church of the Nazarene|Sep 12, 2025

Have you ever noticed how much stuff we accumulate? Our closets are overflowing, our garages are so full that we can’t even park our cars in them, and when we run out of space, we rent storage units to hold the overflow. America has over 50,000 storage facilities and we are building more each day. We keep piling up more, convinced that it will make us happy, but in the end, it often leaves us anxious and overwhelmed rather than satisfied. Jesus once told a story that speaks directly to our overstuffed, overbooked lives. In Luke 12, a man c...

  • The God shaped brain

Steve Hamm, College Hill Church of Christ|Sep 12, 2025

I recently watched a one-hour video from Dr. Timothy Jennings called “The God Shaped Brain,” and I encourage all to watch it if you have the time. The basis of this video is that God has created in us a marvelous organ called the brain. He uses illustrations to inform us about how we believe what we want to believe. Every person has a certain view of God based on several factors in their lives that their faith is built upon. One factor might be the thought, “that’s the God I grew up with because my parents and grandparents believed God to be t...

  • Joy to the World (Limited Quantity)

Rev. Drew Kirtley, First Christian Church|Sep 5, 2025

I had a pep in my step this morning. There’s a strange feeling you might know about, which only comes on rare occasions. It’s that feeling when you’re ordering something online that you know will sell out rather quickly. Concert tickets. Sporting events. A new pair of Converse SHAI 001 ‘Butter’ shoes … That’s why I had the pep. I was planning on ordering these new shoes at 9 a.m. this morning, right when they dropped online. But these weren’t just any shoes. Oh, no … These were the first si...

  • Who's my neighbor?

Steve Hamm, College Hill Church of Christ|Sep 5, 2025

In Luke chapter 10, an expert in the Law asks Jesus the question, “who is my neighbor,” and Jesus tells him the parable of “The Good Samaritan.” It is where a man is traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho and was attacked by robbers and left for dead. A Priest and a Levite both walk by not wanting to get close or even touch the man because they thought he was dead. There was a good reason for both of them not wanting to get close or touch the man because they would’ve had to go through an Old Testament seven-day ceremonial cleansing process....
