Southern Nazarene: SNU falls 5-1 to Northeastern State

BETHANY, Okla. (Oct. 7, 2016) — Matthew Lawrence scored his third goal of the season, but it was not enough to hold off Northeastern State in 5-1 loss Thursday night.

Southern Nazarene (1-10-0) attempted 13 shots on the night, though eight of the shots came in the second half and they landed six shots on goal throughout the entire game. Northeastern State (5-5-0) on the other hand, took 26 shots and landed 14 on goal.

The Riverhawks wasted no time getting their offense running as they scored in the fifth minute when Nikolai Solomon found the back of the net from six yards out. The Riverhawks added another goal in the 26th minute to take a 2-0 lead.

The Storm were held to three shots with two on goal in the first half, while Northeastern State attempted 11 shots with five on goal.

The Riverhawks added two more goals in the 51st and 71st minutes to put the score at 4-0

Lawrence made it a 5-1 game when he scored his third goal of the season in the 76th minute. Lawrence fired a rocket to the back of the net from the middle of the box off of a cross from Christian Hernandez.

Northeastern State scored in the 79th minute off of a Trevor Reed goal that came off of a Joseph Garcia pass, giving the Riverhawks the 5-1 win.

Colton Hadlock recorded nine saves for the Storm and Northeastern State's Jackson Biles notched five saves for the Riverhawks.
