Soccer coach, school bus and architect on school board agenda

The Alva Board of Education will be voting on some coaching changes, hiring an architectural firm and leasing a school bus during their meeting Monday. The board meets at 5 p.m. in the district office at 418 Flynn.

The board will vote on offering employment to Dixie Meyer as a certified high school boys and girls soccer coach, Jacob Gould as a non-certified Alva High School (AHS) boys and girls assistant soccer coach, and Chance Davis as a non-certified AHS baseball assistant coach.

Revisions to extra-duty assignments, the fiscal year 2017 budget for the school, the upcoming school board election for office two, and board meeting dates for next year are on the agenda for discussion and voting.

Board members will discuss with possible board action authorizing Superintendent Steve Parkhurst to cause the school to file a lawsuit against the State Department of Education (SDE), the Oklahoma Tax Commission (OTC) and the State Treasurer regarding the failure of the SDE and the OTC to follow applicable law in calculating the Alva district’s state aid for the 1992-93 through the 2013-14 fiscal years and authorize payment of necessary legal fees and costs.

The board will also discuss and act on a contract with Wells Fargo Equipment Finance Inc. for the lease of a Collins 13 passenger school bus for this school year. A contract with Easley Associates as architects and consultants for the indoor athletic facility will also come up for a vote.

A proposed executive session is planned near the end of the meeting to discuss the superintendent’s evaluation.
