Henderson Aims For Second Straight GAC Win

The Henderson State women's basketball team will attempt to begin Great American Conference play 2-0 as the Reddies play host to Oklahoma Baptist, Saturday at the Duke Wells Center with the opening tip set for 1 p.m.

The Reddies lead the GAC in scoring averaging 80.7 points per game. Henderson's offense is fourth in field goal percentage at 41 percent shooting and ranks second in free throw shooting percentage making 79 percent (56-of-71) from the charity stripe.

Henderson is coming off an impressive 88-69 win over Southern Nazarene in a game that saw five Reddies score in double-figures.

The Reddies 1-2 on the season were led by Haleigh Henson who scored a game-high 20 points while hitting 4-of-6 three-point field goals. The junior from Greenwood, Ark. is averaging 12.0 per game for the year.

Freshman Hailey Estes is already making her name known as the Conway, Ark product totaled 15 points with 10 rebounds and 7 assists against the Storm. Estes is Henderson's leading scorer and rebounder averaging 15.7 points and 7.7 rebounds.

Another freshman having a big presence for the Reddies is Pink Jones. Jones averages 12.3 points per contest after scoring 10 points against SNU.

Bree Bossier is also averaging double-figures scoring 11.3 points per game while grabbing 7.0 rebounds. The Fairfield, Texas native had a double-double on Thursday with a career-high 11 rebounds to go along with 10 points.

Oklahoma Baptist enters the game with a 0-3 record following a 56-42 loss to Ouachita Baptist on Thursday.

The Bison average just 57.7 points per game while allowing 80.0 points per contest.

One area that OBU has struggled with is turnovers as the Bison are averaging 22.3 miscues per game.

OBU returns five players who saw time as starters last season in guards Cameerah Graves, McKenzie Cooper and Lexi Williams and forwards Tasha Edge and Katy Custer.

Edge leads the Bison averaging 15.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Edge had 7 points and 6 boards against the Tigers.

Cooper is scoring 11.3 points per contest while Graves is averaging 6.3 points while dishing out a team best 15 assists.

Cluster scored 20 points in the season opener against Missouri Southern and is averaging 9.0 points per contest.

The two teams first met last year with the visiting team winning both games.

The Reddies won 77-74 in Shawnee, while Oklahoma Baptist won 66-60 in Arkadelphia.

Saturday's double-header will be carried on 106.9 FM KYXK Arkadelphia/Gurdon with Robbie Aaron providing the play-by-play.

The Domino's pregame show will air 12:45 p.m. with the women's game set for 1 p.m.
