Man charged with using stolen gas card

A Waynoka man is facing a felony charge after police were notified he was using a credit card belonging to the Woods County Fire Department in Waynoka.

Brian Casey Nelson, 24, of Waynoka has been charged with a felony of taking or receiving a stolen credit or debit card. This crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to three years, or up to $3,000 fine, or both.

On Friday, Dec. 30, about 5 p.m. Waynoka Fire Chief Lonnie Bolar contacted Officer William Huffman with the Waynoka Police Department. Bolar said the Waynoka Coop had just called and told him that Brian Nelson had used the fire department fuel card to fill up a vehicle belonging to Wes Hood.

Officer Huffman went to the Waynoka Coop where he was told by employees that Nelson and Wes Hood were seen getting $47.01 of gas in Hood’s personal vehicle using a card issued to the Woods County Fire Department – Waynoka.

The next morning, Waynoka Police Chief Ted Woodhead obtained a copy of the gas charges to the card from the Coop. From Oct. 3 to Dec. 26, a total of $301.16 had been charged to the card.

Chief Woodhead talked to Nelson at the police department, bringing the card with him. After voluntarily waiving his Miranda rights, Nelson stated he went to work at a saloon in Sun City, Kansas, on Sept. 19. While at work, he was asked to move a pickup, and he found the card in the cup holder. He said he didn’t know the card belonged to the Waynoka Fire Department.
