Ouachita Sweeps Storm: SNU drops both games of a doubleheader to Ouachita

BETHANY, Okla. — Tyler Stevens went 5-for-7 on the day for Southern Nazarene as it fell 7-5 and 11-4 in a doubleheader with Ouachita Saturday afternoon.

The senior went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored in the opener before going 1-for-2 in the nightcap.

Southern Nazarene took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first of the opening game when Stevens laced a doubled to left center and scored Dalen Edgar all the way from first. The Storm made it 2-0 in the second when Cobi Ceron singled to center to score Mike Descisciolo.

The Tigers finally got on the board in the top of the fifth to lead 6-2. All six runs in the inning were unearned. SNU made it 6-3 in the bottom half of the inning when Stevens singled up the middle to score Edgar. Ouachita added one in the top of the sixth to make it 7-3, but the Storm answered with two more in the bottom of the eighth thanks to a pair of Tiger errors. Stevens scored the first one on an Anthony Wiggins sacrifice fly before Jefferson Harris scored on a wild pitch to cut it to 7-5. That was as close as SNU game though.

David Gustafson (0-2) took the loss after giving up six runs, none of which were earned, on four hits. He also struck out nine in 4.2 innings.

In the nightcap, Ouachita took the first lead in the nightcap with one in the top of the second. The Tigers tacked on five more in the third and added another in the fourth to lead 7-0.

SNU got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Ceron singled to right field to score Wiggins from second to make it 7-1. Ouachita pushed it to 9-1 in the top of the fifth, but SNU got on back on a Descisciolo single down the left field line to score Harris.

The Tigers though added two in the top of the seventh to lead 11-2. SNU made it 11-3 in the bottom half of the inning on a double to center by Josh Flowers to score Dalen Edgar before Harris drove home another run with a single to right center to score Flowers to make it 11-4.

Cody Tolbert (1-2) took the loss after giving up six runs, five earned, on three hits in 2.1 innings of work.

Wiggins led the way going 2-for-4 with a run scored.
