Tigers sweep Southern Nazarene

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers' baseball team scored 18 runs to win both games of a doubleheader at Southern Nazarene University on Saturday and sweep the weekend series. The series sweep improved the Tigers to 5-9 overall and 3-3 in the Great American Conference. Abe Young and Adam Bahloul picked up wins for the Tigers on Saturday. Aaron Studdard went 2-5 with a homerun, three runs scored and two RBI. Justin Weigle and Ty Owens also homered for Ouachita.

The Tigers took game one by a final of 7-5. Southern Nazarene took an early 2-0 lead after scoring a run in the first and second innings. After stranding base runners in scoring position in the top of the third, The Tigers' offense went to work in the top of the fifth. With two outs in the inning, the Tigers scored six runs. Jakahari Howell doubled down the left field line to score Aaron Studdard. Howell and Ty Owens both scored on an error to give Ouachita the 3-2 lead. Preston Speers picked up two RBI with a double down the left field line. Austin White followed with a double to left center to score Speers and give the Tigers the 6-2 lead.

Howell picked up another RBI double in the seventh inning. SNU scored two unearned run in the eighth to cut the lead to 7-5. Logan Huneycutt pitched a scoreless ninth to get his second save of the season.

Ouachita won the second game of the doubleheader by a final of 11-4. Ouachita had 13 hits in the game. A RBI single by Studdard in the second put the Tigers on the scoreboard. Ouachita scored five runs in the third inning to take a 6-0 lead. A solo homerun from Justin Weigle in the fourth made it a 7-0 game. SNU answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth, cutting the Tiger lead to six. A RBI triple by Howell and a RBI double from Owens in the fifth gave the Tigers a 9-2 lead. Owens and Studdard both homered in the top of the seventh to increase Ouachita's lead to 11-2. SNU got a couple of runs in the bottom of the seventh, but Brian Krikorian was able to get the last three outs of the inning in relief to secure the win.

The Tigers return to Rab Rodgers Field on Tuesday, Feb, 28. They'll host Lyon College. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
