Muleriders open outdoor season by topping 16-team field to win Marc Randle Classic

TYLER, Texas – The Southern Arkansas Mulerider Track and Field team claimed the team-title at the 16-team Marc Randle Classic behind a pair of first-place performances and 24 point-scoring finishes as they opened up the outdoor portion of their 2017 schedule in dominating fashion on Friday afternoon at The Brook Hill School.

Having previously competed indoors in their first two meets of the season (A-State Invitational and Dunamis Sport Group Indoor Classic), the Muleriders reveled the opportunity to compete outside and took advantage as they racked up 119 points; beating second-place Wiley College by 38 points. McMurry University (68.50) placed third, while Texas College (51) edged Jarvis Christian (49) for fourth-place.

Doug Palmer grabbed an event win in the 5000 meter with a first-place time of 15:34.04 and Aurthur Jeffrey claimed the triple jump crown with a final leap of 14.46 meters. Jeffrey totaled 14 points and helped add another eight points as the third leg of the second-place 4x100 meter relay team (42.26). Xavier Cooper added six points personally and was a part of two relay teams that tallied 13 total points.

Sinclair Pitts led the Muleriders in the field with 13 points as he placed with point-scoring finishes in the shot put, discus throw and hammer throw. Tyler Shelton led all SAU scorers with 21 points with second-place finishes in the 110 meter hurdles (15.71) and high jump (1.98 meters) and a fourth-place finish in the triple jump (13.65 meters).
