Ranger offense overpowers Southeastern in series opener

Northwestern Oklahoma State baseball took the home turf in the third conference series of the year against Southeastern Oklahoma State who came in 1-11 on the year while 0-6 in conference play. The Rangers would indeed add another loss to the column, following a 9-3 win in the opening game of the series.

Starting on the hill for the hosts was Bryce Tomlin who was really solid in his fourth start of the year, going six strong innings, giving up three runs on three hits while adding five Ks to his stat line.

The home offense exploded in the contest with 10 hits on the evening, led by catcher Arturo Castro, who had a big 3-for-3 outing. Castro's hot bat also brought three runs home for the Ranger offensive unit. Two other Northwestern batters who were steady at the plate in Steven Deckard and Jorin Van Amstel who each went 2-for-4 at the dish.

Leading off in the bottom half of the opening inning, the Rangers beat up the Savage Storm starter with three runs on three hits, making it a quick 3-0 lead to begin the game.

Southeastern had trouble getting on the board early on, going scoreless for the first two innings before plating a run in the third, making it a two-run ballgame, but the Northwestern offense was just getting started.

The home team would erase the run in the very next at bat as Castro ripped a ground rule double to left, scoring Delano from second base, making it a sizeable 4-1 lead.

Following an open frame in the fifth, the Savage Storm would charge back with two runs in the top of the sixth, squeezing the lead to one run. For the second time in the contest however, the hosts would gain another run, making the visitors damage less impactful.

The fantastic outing for Ranger starter, Tomlin ended after six innings of work where he gave up just three runs on three hits and coming on in relief was Brandon Nesseralla who was brilliant in his seventh appearance of the year, earning the redshirt freshman his first save in a Ranger uniform.

Two straight innings with no runs hurt the visitors as the Rangers would open up the already two-run lead to five after a big four-run eighth, making it a commanding 9-3, going into the final inning, which is where the score would remain.

The win for Tomlin would even up his season record at 2-2, which would in turn take the Ranger conference record to 2-5.
