Harding Volleyball Comes Up Short against No. 9 Arkansas Tech

SEARCY – It took five sets for the No. 9 Arkansas Tech volleyball team to beat Harding Tuesday in Great American Conference action. The Lady Bisons fell 3-2 (27-25, 21-25, 25-15, 18-25, 20-18).

Harding falls to 24-5 overall and 12-3 in the GAC.

Arkansas Tech improves to 31-0 overall and 15-0 in the GAC.

The Lady Bisons have already sealed their spot in the GAC Tournament Nov. 16-18 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Harding will be the No. 2 seed. Their opponent hasn't been determined yet with one GAC match remaining.

After the match, seniors Taylor Mounts and Selena Foster were recognized for their contributions to the Harding volleyball program.

FIRST SET

Harding took a 8-2 lead in the first set and led until Arkansas Tech went on a 4-0 run on two kills and three service aces to lead 16-15.Trailing 22-21, Harding took a 23-22 lead on back-to-back kills. With the set tied at 25, Amanda Milnick had a kill and a service ace to give Arkansas Tech the set 27-25.

SECOND SET

The second set stayed close until Harding went on a 6-2 run to win the set 25-21. The Lady Bisons hit .440 in the set and had 13 kills.

THIRD SET

The third set was all Arkansas Tech. The Golden Suns took a 15-12 lead off a Harding attack error and then went on a 10-3 run to win the set 25-15.

FOURTH SET

Harding took a 13-10 lead off a kill by Emma Reeves in the fourth set. The Lady Bisons then went on a 9-3 run to lead 22-13. A kill by Taylor Mounts gave Harding the set win and forced a fifth set.

FIFTH SET

Arkansas Tech took a 7-3 lead in the fifth set until Harding went on a 5-1 run to tie the set at eight. The Golden Suns won four of the next five points to lead 12-9. The Lady Bisons battled back and had match point 14-13 but a kill by Arkansas Tech kept them alive. Harding again had match point at 17-16 but another Golden Sun kill kept the match going. With the set tied at 18, a kill by Allie Anderson and a service ace by Amanda Milnick gave Arkansas Tech the win.

Harding

- For the third straight match, the Lady Bisons were led by Taylor Mounts who had 17 kills. Zoe Hardin had 16 kills and Emma Reeves had 13.

- Rachel Heussner captured a double-double with 51 assists and 11 digs.

- Taylor Lake led the defense with 18 digs. Madison Poen had 14 and Taylor Eubank had 10.

- Harding is 2-1 this season in five set matches.

Arkansas Tech

- It was the second time this season Arkansas Tech has gone five sets. The last time was against No. 15 Central Missouri. The Golden Suns won that match 3-2.

- Lexie Johnston led Arkansas Tech with 21 kills and hit .500.

- Amanda Milnick had 51 assists, 19 digs and five service aces.

- Madison Nagel led the defense with 22 digs. Hunter Eshnaur added 13 digs.

UP NEXT

Harding will play its final regular season match Thursday when it travels to Arkansas-Monticello. First serve is at 6:30 p.m.
