SE Drops Final Exhibition at UTSA

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Southeastern had a trio of double-digit scorers and matched Texas-San Antonio shot-for-shot in the second half, but fell in its final exhibition on Tuesday night 79-67 in San Antonio, Texas.

The Savage Storm now look ahead to the regular season opener on Nov. 10 when it takes on Central Oklahoma at 5:30 p.m. in Alva, Okla., in the GAC/MIAA Challenge opener.

Ryan Scott-McGuire led the way for SE with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while Bobby Johnson was right behind with 12, thanks to a trio of threes, and James Donelan came off the bench to chip in 10.

As a team the Storm shot 42.9 percent for the game thanks to a 46.9 percent effort in the second half.

Jett Jobe dished out a team-best three assists.

Scott-McGuire was also the team's leading rebounder with eight boards as SE held a 40-to-39 edge on the glass. Johnson chipped in seven.

The teams matched each other shot-for-shot to open the game, with a pair of Johnson threes helping the Storm knot the game at 8-8 early.

UTSA would score the next nine points, but SE would rally and close the gap to 17-14 on a pair of Donelan free throws at the 10:34 mark.

The Roadrunners would again pull ahead, going up by as many as 16 points before a pair of buckets by Scott-McGuire and Donelan in the final minute would close the gap to 39-27 at the break.

The Storm would close the gap to 44-39 on a Jobe layup at the 16:50 mark of the second half, but UTSA would pull away until a Scott-McGuire jumper with 10:02 to play again cut the deficit to five points at 60-55.

That was as close as it would get as UTSA would push the lead back to double-figures and hand SE a 79-67 loss.
