Hillcats Split with ENMU in Nonconference Doubleheader

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State softball team was propelled to a 4-3 victory in game one by a four-RBI performance by freshman Allie McFetridge, but the Hillcats dropped a high scoring affair in game two, 18-9, to the Greyhounds on Wednesday (April 4) in a nonconference doubleheader at the Diamond Sports Complex.

The Hillcats moved to 27-11 on the season, and the Greyhounds went to 16-23.

RSU 4, ENMU 3

McFetridge drove in all four runs, including three runs on a home run to left field, in a 4-3 victory in game one.

After the solo home run from ENMU in the third inning, McFetridge sent out a three-run home run over the wall in left to put the Hillcats up 3-1.

The Fullerton, Calif. native plated the game-winning run in the sixth inning on an RBI single up the middle to score Katy Taylor for a 4-1 margin.

The Greyhounds tried to rally with a two-run homer in the top of the seventh, but the Cats held on for the 4-3 win.

McFetridge finished 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run scored.

Alex Brake went the full 7.0 innings in the circle and allowed only three hits with eight strikeouts.

ENMU 18, RSU 9

Nine unearned runs were the difference in game two as the visiting Greyhounds won, 18-9, in the nightcap. The Hillcats committed four errors and had trouble ending innings.

Fifteen of the 18 runs from ENMU came with two outs as the navy and red had a tough time getting the third out.

The Greyhounds opened up an 11-1 with six unearned runs in the fourth inning.

RSU tried to battle back with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to pull to within three at 11-8. The Cats started with three RBI singles from Rylee DeLozier Sierra Skaggs and Katy Taylor to make it 11-4 before a grand slam home run from Danelle Day, her second of the game and 14th of the season tying her for second all-time in RSU single season history, doubled RSU's run total for a 11-8 score.

EMNU homered in the fifth with the three-run knock extending its edge to 14-8.

Skaggs hit a solo home run over the scoreboard in right field in the fifth inning, and Erikka Burke of EMNU matched her with a solo shot in the seventh as the Greyhounds pushed across four runs in the seventh inning for the 18-9 final tally.

Day registered a 2-for-4 performance with five RBI and two runs scored. McFetridge was 3-for-4 at the plate to go 5-for-8 with four RBI in the twinbill. Skaggs, DeLozier, Katelyn Gamble and Tailee Reding all registered two hits as the navy and red totaled 14 hits in game two.

Jennifer McElroy of EMNU went 3-for-5 with two home runs and six RBI in game two. Burke was 3-for-4 with five RBI.

Andrea Morales started in the circle in game two, going 3.2 innings with six strikeouts, but five earned runs allowed. Skaggs and Brake went the final 3.1 innings in relief.

The Hillcats go on the road this weekend at Texas A&M International in Laredo, Texas. The three-game series starts on Friday (April 6) at 12 p.m. with a doubleheader. Live stats and video streaming will be available.
