Wonder Boys selected as top team in Central Region for upcoming regional championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Arkansas Tech men's golf has been ranked as the top team in the Central Region for the 2018 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships, the NCAA announced Friday. Regional play is scheduled for May 7-9 at the Findlay Country Club in Findlay, Ohio.

At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals May 21-25, at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at the Shoals, Fighting Joe Course in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

The remaining eight berths will be allocated based on the regions represented in the prior year's head-to-head medal play portion of the championship, with the maximum number of teams from a given region capped at seven. The Central Region will be paired with the Midwest Region for the regional tournament.

In last year's region championships, Arkansas Tech placed fourth to earn a spot in the national tournament. Putter Srinoon led the Wonder Boys with a three-round 208 (-8) to tie for 11th. At the Division II National Championships, Tech finished eighth to advance to the match-play portion of the championships. There, the eighth-seeded Wonder Boys faced and defeated top-seeded Barry in the quarterfinals, behind Srinoon's match-low 69.

Arkansas Tech's magical run and best season in program history came to an end in the semifinals of the national championships, as the Wonder Boys were defeated, 3-2, by Lynn.

The 2018 Wonder Boys are coming off a regular season in which they placed in the top five in all 10 regular-season tournaments, as well as a second-place finish at the Great American Conference Championships earlier this week.
