Happy Independence Day, everyone

Make sure you explain what the real celebration is about to your young people. Also no burnt fingers, fires or any other problems. "Swami Jim" sees lots of good food and fellowship in your July 4th future.

There must be a gazillion dollars of profit in fireworks because I see fireworks stands everywhere. On a trip to Enid I saw several out in the middle of nowhere. I don't help much anymore on getting a profit. The kids take care of the expense on the grandkids. We have gotten so lazy/tired that Cleo and I haven't gone to a fireworks display in many years. All of them we ever went to were really neat but after you've seen 15-20 of them they get to looking suspiciously alike. If you attend I hope they are everything you want them to be.

This week was the Act I youth play “Mary Poppins Jr.” There were about 40 kids in this play and all did great. It was pretty long so there were lots of lines/songs to learn. As always, it was really fun. Thanks to everyone who participated and helped.

The primaries are over. I hope you voted. We should have a drug bill on every ballot because lots of people showed up, and I bet many of them had never seen a voting booth before. I don't even remember who I voted for. I tried to pick someone that I hadn't seen knocking the other candidates on TV. It will get more serious now because they have to stand on their own records and not the lies they tell about each other.

The medical marijuana bill passed with a 57 percent majority. It was what the people wanted, but I am not happy with the content and wonder if the idiots that wrote it may have started some early smoking. The bill needs to be gone over and some sense put into it. The first thing for the "tweakers" of the bill is to call every state that has laws in place and ask what has worked and what needs to be changed. Then get doctors, pharmacy personnel, people that need the drugs, law enforcement, and lawmakers together and beat out a plan that will be fair, manageable and law friendly (with teeth to address people taking advantage of the system). This should have been done BEFORE the vote, but oh well.

Cousin Anne made it home but her clothes didn't. Someone broke into her truck and stole her suitcase and some stuff she got here to resell. The only good thing, if there was any, is she had made it into Canada when the thieves struck.

I think the Gulp and Gallop is over. Thank you to all the volunteers for this great service.

Did you know if you have four Baptists you usually have a fifth? Have a good week.
