2019 Districts 3A Tournament Champions

ALVA, Okla. –The Alva Goldbugs swept Hennessey 2-0 in the Districts 3A tournament championship Thursday evening.

Game 1

Alva started the game out on top in the first inning as the team scored three runs.

During the second inning Hennessey stormed back to take the lead. Hennessey scored four runs on three hits and two errors by Goldbug players.

Hennessey went on to score four more runs at the top of the third inning on two hits.

Alva responded in the fifth inning as Dalton Hess singled through second base. Dalton Rose, at the very next at-bat, singled down third baseline to give the Goldbugs two on base. Kaden Slater walked at his at-bat. Dominic Minjares singled, bringing Dalton Hess home. The Goldbugs went on to score two runs on three hits in the inning, bringing the game within three runs.

Alva's Donald Blalock entered the game for pitcher Kaden Slater at the top of the fifth. Blalock held Hennessey scoreless through the remainder of the game.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Goldbugs made a run to tie the game. The Goldbugs' Austin Reed and Kaden Slater scored in the inning, ultimately pushing the game to an extra inning.

David Moreno started the inning on the mound for Hennessey. The Goldbugs went on to win the game in the bottom of the eighth inning. Dalton Hess, Dalton Rose and Kaden Slater each walked at their at-bats versus Moreno. Ultimately, Dalton Hess scored on an error to second base.

Alva defeated Hennessey 10-9 during the first game of the double header.

Game 2

The Goldbugs fought hard in Game 2 to keep their offense rolling as the team jumped out to another three-run lead in the first inning. Dalton Hess, Dalton Rose and Kaden Slater scored for the Goldbugs in the inning.

In the second inning Alva's Carson Gaisford scored for the Bugs, giving the team a 4-0 lead entering the third inning.

At the bottom of the third inning, Hessensey's offensive started to connect as Wade Vinson and Kaden Hawk both singled. Despite their efforts, the inning resulted in zero runs.

Alva's offense continued to roll in the fourth as Dalton Hess and Dalton Rose singled, providing two runners on base. Kaden Slater walked at his at-bat. Dominic Minjares singled down third baseline. Dalton Hess and Dalton Rose scored in the inning, giving Alva a six-run lead.

The Goldbugs defeated Hennessey 7-2 while clinching the District Championship in the sweep.
