A controlled drug buy has resulted in charges against a man from Cherokee who was living in Alva at the time.

Bernie Scott Stocking, 54, has been charged with distribution of controlled dangerous substance (methamphetamine), a felony. This crime is punishable by imprisonment for not more than five years or a fine of up to $20,000, or both.

Court records show Alva Police Officer John Caviness made arrangements with a confidential informant to make the drug purchase from Stocking at his Alva residence earlier this year. Caviness searched the informant and the informant’s vehicle before the buy.

Afterward, the informant gave Caviness a clear jewelry baggie containing a white powdery substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. The weight was determined to be 6.2 grams with an approximate street value of $600. The evidence was secured and later sent to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation laboratory.

The felony warrant was served on Oct. 26, and Stocking’s initial appearance in court is set for Nov. 12.
