Rangers close out series with Senior Day

ALVA – The Rangers closed out their three game series with Southern Arkansas on Saturday afternoon for Senior Day. The Rangers honored nine seniors following the conclusion of the game.

Southern Arkansas following the win completed the sweep over the Rangers as Northwestern dropped to 17-30 on the season while Southern Arkansas went to 31-14.

On offense, Ranger Macy Spearman got the only hit of the afternoon.

Spearman led the game off with a single as the Rangers looked to score first. Southern Arkansas worked around the lead off hit and a walk to keep the game scoreless.

The game remained scoreless through the first two innings before Southern Arkansas struck in the third inning. Southern Arkansas struck first on an RBI single to right field for a 1-0 lead before a bases-loaded walk pushed the game to 2-0. A second bases-loaded walk had the Muleriders in the lead 3-0.

In the fourth inning, Southern Arkansas extended the lead after two RBI singles pushed the lead to 5-0 leading to a King two-RBI double for a 7-0 lead over the Rangers.

In the fifth inning, Southern Arkansas scored a six spot on the Rangers to extend their lead to 13-0. After a lead-off double, a single pushed their lead to 8-0 before a second RBI single had the game at 9-0.

A bases loaded two-RBI single followed by a McAlexander bases-loaded triple sent the game to 13-0. After a scoreless fifth inning, the Muleriders closed out the sweep over the Rangers.

Northwestern will return to action to close out the regular season on today against Ouachita Baptist with a doubleheader Friday before closing out the season on Saturday.
