Representing South Barber High School, sisters Sabrina and Savannah Hughbanks played No.1 Doubles and medaled at the 3-2-1A State Tennis Tournament. The event was last weekend at the Riverside Tennis Complex in Wichita.

Sabrina, a senior, and Savannah, a sophomore, were one of the 12 teams to medal at state of the 24 teams who qualified to play at state.

In the combined classes of 3A, 2A and 1A, 84 doubles teams competed in the four regional tournaments. The Hughbanks duo was one of only two of the 1A schools to reach the state finals in doubles to medal. Only two of the 2A schools also reached finals. The remainder were top 3A schools.

The duo entered state with a 24-7 record. They had a tough road during regular season, even facing teams from 5A schools.

Katie Hughes, a SB graduate who was on the tennis team and is now an elementary teacher, coaches the South Barber Girls Tennis Team this year.

The sisters are daughters of Kyle and Dr. Trina Hughbanks.
