October 23, 2016

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State women's soccer team scored early and played to a 1-1 draw with St. Mary's on Saturday (Oct. 22) afternoon at Soldier Field.

The Hillcats went in front in the 14th minute when junior defender Jasmine Guerra scored on a ball that was misplayed by the St. Mary's goalkeeper and barely crossed the goal line for a 1-0 RSU advantage. The goal ties Guerra for the team lead in tallies with three on the season.

The visiting Rattlers received a penalty kick in the 83rd minute after a foul on RSU in the box. StMU's Roxy Cruz Santory converted on the penalty kick to knot the score at 1-1 late in regulation.

After two 10-minute overtime periods, the game remained tied for the 1-1 final score.

Despite being outshot in the contest 25-1, the Hillcats held the lead for the majority of the game. The Guerra goal was the only shot for RSU in the 110 minutes.

The defense of the navy and red had a shutout going for more than 80 minutes. Goalkeeper Tayler Stovermade some outstanding saves and finished with nine in the game. The sophomore allowed only the penalty kick goal in 110 minutes.

RSU (5-8-3, 1-8-3) continues its four-game home stretch to end the season on Thursday (Oct. 27) when Lubbock Christian travels to Soldier Field for a Heartland Conference clash at Soldier Field. Start time is set for 7 p.m. with coverage available on the Hillcat Network at http://www.rsuhillcats.com/live.
