Lady Bison Basketball Defeats Missouri Southern State on Tuesday

JOPLIN, Mo. – The Harding women's basketball team held Missouri Southern State to shooting 35.1 percent as the Lady Bisons won 73-61 on Tuesday in non-conference action.

RECORDS

Harding improves to 2-0 on the season and Missouri Southern State falls to 1-2.

FIRST QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS

Harding trailed for the first three minutes but took a 5-4 lead with 7:07 left in the first quarter on a Riley Rose 3-pointer. A 3-pointer by Mackenzie McNamarawith 3:07 left gave the Lady Bisons a 12-point lead as Harding went on to lead 20-15 after the first quarter. The Lady Bisons made 7-of-8 free throws and had seven offensive rebounds.

SECOND QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS

Harding continued to build on its momentum in the second quarter as the Lady Bisons lead by 15 with 1:53 left in the half. After two Missouri Southern State free throws, Harding had a layup by Sydnie Jones to take a 40-25 led at the break. Harding had seven buckets in the quarter and 14 rebounds.

THIRD QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS

Harding held on to its double digit lead in the third quarter and led by as much has 16, twice. The Lady Bisons shot 54.5 percent in the quarter making 6-of-11 field goals.

FOURTH QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS

With 5:39 left in the game, Harding took its largest lead when A'ndrea Haney made a 3-pointer to give the Lady Bisons a 69-49 lead. The lead was too much to overcome as Missouri Southern State battled in the final minutes scoring 10 points in the final 2:37. Harding shot 54.5 percent in the quarter.

TEAM/INDIVIDUAL STATS

Harding shot 43.6 percent, making 24-of-55 from the field including 10 3-pointers.

The Lady Bisons shot 93.8 percent from the free throw line, making 15-of-16.

Riley Rose led Harding with 15 points, making 3-of-5 from behind the 3-point line. She also had four assists. A'ndrea Haney added 11 points, making two 3-pointers.

Harding had five players that were perfect from the free throw line, led by Sydney Layrockwho made 4-of-4.

Missouri Southern State was led by Deb Holcomb who had 18 points, making 8-of-14 from the field.

Harding outrebounded Missouri Southern 36-32. Both teams had over 10 offensive rebounds.

NEXT GAME

Harding will open Great American Conference action on Thursday when it hosts Northwestern Oklahoma at 5:30 p.m., at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.
