Bison Claim Regional in Shootout

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – David Estrada beat the Southwestern Christian keeper to put the finishing touches in the shootout period and give Oklahoma Baptist the NCCAA Central Region crown Friday.

Luis Romero scored in the third minute to give OBU a 1-0 lead and SCU knotted the game in the 17th minute. Neither team could get the ball in the net for the remaining 63 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of overtime.

SCU scored first in the shootout, but Vicente Castillo tied it and Jared Hill gave OBU a 2-1 lead after an Eagle miss. Alejandro Castillo made it 3-1 following a second SCU misfire and Estrada sealed the win, 4-2, in the shootout.

Bronson Wise had seven saves for the Bison.

SCU handed the Bison a 3-1 loss in the regular season.

Now 13-7-2, the Bison head to Kissimmee, Florida, for the national tournament, which starts Nov. 28. Bluefield, Bethesda and Bethel Colleges have also sealed berths to the championship tournament.
