Sterling Rector wins Patriot Pen essay contest

South Barber Junior High student Sterling Rector is the winner of the Kiowa VFW Post and Auxiliary Patriot's Pen essay contest. Rector is shown presenting her paper at the Veteran's Day Program held at South Barber High School.

Sterling Rector, a junior high student at South Barber in Kiowa, Kansas, wrote the winning paper in the Kiowa VFW Post and Auxiliary Patriot's Pen essay contest. She is the daughter of Tim and Melissa Rector. The following is her essay:

The America I Believe In

When I think about America, I think of many things. The America, I believe in, is free; soldiers continue to fight for freedom; and the U.S.A. is united as one.
