Kansas policeman uses own money to aid fire-displaced family

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — A Wichita police officer who spotted a fire in a mobile home while on his way to work reported the blaze, then went a step further with the help of his family — and their checkbook.

Chad Spaulding stopped at the scene of the Dec. 2 blaze and learned the occupants, including five children, were away at a Christmas program at a church, The Wichita Eagle (http://bit.ly/2hpgS05) reported.

So Spaulding learned a little more about the family and used his own money to buy them such things as toiletries, toys and diapers. He got one of his family members to donate a cooler of brea...
