Henderson looks to remain unbeaten in GAC against SWOSU

January 6, 2017

The first-place Henderson State women's basketball team will return to Great American Conference play on Thursday night when it hosts the Lady Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State at 5:30 p.m. in the Duke Wells Center.

Series:

The Reddies trail in the all-time series with SWOSU 6-9. Henderson split the two meetings with the Bulldogs last season, falling on the road in Weatherford, Oklahoma 97-87, but winning 87-76 at home in Arkadelphia.

Henderson State Notes:

The Reddies are 4-6 on the year but have not dropped a GAC contest yet this season. They sit 4-0 in conference play and atop the league standings.

Henderson is led by strong guard-play and feature four guards scoring in double figures: freshmen Pink Jones and Hailey Estes, sophomore Torrie Thompson and junior Haleigh Henson. Jones, who is averaging 14.1 points per game, is the leading freshman scorer in the conference and the seventh-highest scorer in the league overall. Estes averages 11.1 points per game, while also leading the team in rebounding with 7.4 boards per game, good for sixth-best in the GAC. Thompson scores 10.8 points per contest and is the GAC leader in 3-point shooting percentage, shooting just over 48 percent from behind the arc, while Henson, who is also prolific from the 3-point line, scores just over 12 points per game and is the conference leader in minutes played, with 378 in 10 games, or 37.8 minutes per game.

As a team, the Reddies have the third-highest scoring offense in the GAC, averaging 76.1 points per game and are also second in the league in turnover margin at plus 2.20. Henderson, despite being very guard-heavy, is also a surprisingly strong offensive rebounding team. They average 14.5 offensive boards a game, second-best in the GAC.

SWOSU Notes:

The Lady Bulldogs are 7-3 on the year and 3-1 in GAC action, with their only loss coming on the road to first-place Harding.

SWOSU has a potent scoring attack that averages 78.9 points per game, making them the highest scoring team in the conference. They are led by sophomore Hailey Tucker, who averages 18.2 points and 9.7 rebounds per game, making her the leading scorer and second-leading rebounder in the GAC. The Lady Bulldogs will also look to senior Whitney Dunn, who is shooting just under 63 percent from the floor this season, as well as sophomore Hayden Priddy, who averages 13.2 points and 4.9 assists per game.

Admission for all-GAC double-headers is $5 for adults and $4 for students. Henderson State students are admitted free with their student ID.
