Ranger family mourns loss of former student-athlete

February 12, 2017

Northwestern Oklahoma State has lost one of its own this week as Tyler Mays, former Ranger golfer, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 7.

Tyler was a member of the Ranger golf team during the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons and was a consistent player for Northwestern, competing in numerous tournaments during his time in Alva.

Tyler graduated from Edmond North High School in 2006. He studied journalism broadcasting and played golf at Seminole State College and Northwestern Oklahoma State University.

While attending school, he worked in a restaurant as a cook and soon discovered how much he enjoyed cooking and the restaurant industry. When returning to Edmond he pursued his passion and began his career in culinary arts.

Tyler not only enjoyed cooking but working with people. He was work-driven, self-motivated and loved taking on the challenges of his work and building relationships. Tyler was a passionate man with a huge heart and contagious smile; he was a great brother and friend to many. He enjoyed watching sports, playing golf and supporting Notre Dame.

He also loved to spend time with his family and friends. The most recent joy in Tyler's life was becoming an uncle. He so looked forward to the future with his nephew.

The family would like to request that all donations of any kind be made to the Northwestern Oklahoma State golf programs as one of his greatest joys was to be a part of the Ranger family. Below is the information needed in order to make any donations.
