February 26, 2017

MAGNOLIA, ARK. – The East Central University baseball team dropped a 3-13 decision to Southern Arkansas in the first of three-games against the Muleriders at Walker Stadium at Goodheart Field.

The Tigers (2-9, 2-2 GAC) were led by senior Jake MeKeel, with two hits, a sacrifice bunt and one run.

Junior Shae Edmonds started the game on the mound, recording six strike outs and allowing eight hits and six runs in 4.2 innings of work.

The Muleriders (7-4, 4-0 GAC) got things started early, scoring four runs in the bottom of the second for the lead.

SAU added two more runs in the fifth and seven in the sixth to increase the lead to 0-13.

ECU made a push in the top of the seventh, earning three runs. Senior JT Stevenson started things off with a walk and after the first two outs, junior Jacob Cowling was walked as well. That set up MeKeel to earn an RBI with a single to center.

Junior Connor Stevenson was hit by a pitch to load the bases and senior Kaleb Matthews earned the final two RBIs with a single to right center.

The teams will now get ready for a double-header Saturday, Feb. 25 starting at noon.
