Walk-off homerun by Johnson gives Tigers 3-1 series win over SNU

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Sarah Johnson's walk-off homerun gave the Ouachita Tigers' a 5-4 win over SNU in extra innings on Saturday in Arkadelphia, Ark. The win in game two of Saturday's doubleheader gave the Tigers a 3-1 series win to open conference play. Johnson went 4-6 on the day with two runs scored and a RBI. Kelsey O'Brien picked up her fourth win of the season in game two.

Southern Nazarene took the first game of the doubleheader by a final of 2-0. The Tigers were held in to just two hits in game one. Kelly Powell and Sarah Johnson singled in the bottom of the third and seventh innings respectively. Marissa Butler got the start in game one and allowed only two runs off three hits through five innings of work. She walked two and struck out two.

The Tigers' bats came alive in game two, producing 12 hits in eight innings of play. Southern Nazarene jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first but a RBI single from Powell in the bottom of the second got the Tigers on the scoreboard to tie the game at 1-1. An RBI double down the left field line from Daniella Brantley scored Johnson in the bottom of the third to give Ouachita a 2-1 lead. With the bases loaded in that same inning, Madison Crosby got a RBI after being hit by a pitch.


Ouachita picked up another run in the bottom of the fourth inning, increasing their lead to 4-1. Southern Nazarene answered in the top of the sixth, scoring three runs to tie the game. Kelsey O'Brien held Southern Nazarene scoreless in the top of the seventh and eighth innings. With two outs in the top of the eighth, Sarah Johnson sent pitch sailing over the wall in left to give Ouachita the game and series win.


The Tigers (9-7, 3-1) will travel to Russellville, Ark. on March 3-4 for a four-game series against Arkansas Tech. Friday's doubleheader is set for 4:00 and 6:00 p.m.
