Parra Ties Career Wins Record with Shutout

ALVA – Oklahoma Baptist senior Jinny Parra tossed a two-hit, 10-0 shutout at Northwestern Oklahoma State to notch his 35th career win for the Bison Saturday.

That win ties Parra with Bison legends David Hocking and Darrin Fowler for the career wins record. Hocking ended his career in 1989 and Fowler in 1992, each with a 35-13 career record. Parra is now 35-10.

Parra Saturday allowed two singles and struck out 14 batters. He will likely get his first chance to take sole possession of the record next weekend when the Bison host Southwestern Oklahoma State.

Parra's battery mate Juan Gonzalez did his share at the plate with four runs batted in.

The Bison scored five times in the first inning with a bases-loaded walk to Josh Timms and hit by pitch for Gonzalez. A third run scored on a double play, Timm scored on a wild pitch and Nick Burnham singled in a run for the fifth run.

Timms tripled in a run in the second with two outs and then scored on a base hit by Gonzalez.

Gonzalez singled in Timms again in the fourth inning for an 8-0 lead.

Gonzalez added a sacrifice fly in the fifth and Joe Moran homered in the sixth for the final margin.

The Bison managed 12 hits, including a double and a triple by Timms, a home run and single by Moran and two singles each by Rodriguez, Burnham and Kevin Olmeda.

OBU hosts Dallas Christian for a non-conference game Monday at 6 p.m. and the Bison pitchers will try to extend their scoreless inning streak then.

With Parra's shutout and Carson McPherson's no-hitter Friday, the current scoreless innings streak is at 17. OBU had a streak of 29 scoreless innings earlier this season.
