Baseball Falls in Series Opener at Harding

SEARCY, ARK. – The East Central University baseball team dropped a 2-5 decision to Harding in the opening game of the Great American Conference series.

The Tigers (9-21, 8-14 GAC) were led by senior Kaleb Matthews, with two hits, two RBIs and seven putouts.

The Bisons (13-21, 9-13 GAC) were the first to get on the scoreboard, earning a run in the first inning.

The game remained that way until the sixth inning, when ECU tied the game at one. Sophomore Zach Lewis started the inning with a single and was sent to second on a sacrifice bunt by senior Kodiak O'Ravez. After the first out, Matthews earned his first RBI with a double to left center.

It took an inning for Harding to respond, but when they did the Bisons added four runs for the 1-5 advantage.

The Tigers cut into the deficit with a run in the eighth on a single from senior Jake MeKeel and a triple from Matthews. However, that was all the scoring for the rest of the game for the 2-5 final.

The teams will wrap up the series, Saturday, April 8 with a double header slated to start at noon.
