Harding Women's Tennis Sweeps Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 7-0

PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Harding women's tennis made quick work of NCAA Division I Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Monday, defeating the Golden Lions 7-0 in a non-conference match.

When Harding (12-5) plays at a Division I opponent, doubles count as only one point. Arkansas-Pine Bluff (2-19) had only five players and lost by default at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.

Harding needed only one more win in doubles to clinch the point, and the No. 1 team of Piper Huey and Laura Golubic delivered a 6-1 victory, the 10th straight for the duo who is now 18-4 this season.

Brittany Smyser and Arielle Butler played at No. 2 doubles and won 6-1 to improve to 3-0 together in 2017.

Harding took a 2-0 lead with the default at No. 6 singles and lost only five games in sweeping the remaining five matches.

Harding is scheduled to play Arkansas Tech on Tuesday in Great American Conference action, but the match may be postponed with rain in the forecast.
