SNU Falls to Northwestern Oklahoma State

BETHANY, Okla. — Tyler Stevens went 3-for-3 with two home runs and three runs scored in an 18-8 loss to Northwestern Oklahoma State Friday afternoon in the first game of a three-game Great American Conference series.
All eight of the Crimson Storm's hit came in the top six spots of the lineup, but SNU gave up 17 hits and committed two errors as the Rangers scored in every inning but the first.
The Rangers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second that included a pair of home runs. SNU answered in the bottom half of the inning with three to tie it. Stevens led off the inning with a double to center before Cobi Ceron drove him in with a single to left side. Anthony Wiggins cleared the bases with his third home run of the year on a shot to center to knot it at 3-3.
Northwestern retook the lead at 4-3 in the top of the third, but the Storm tied it in the bottom of the third on a Wiggins sacrifice fly to center that scored Garrett Perez. The Rangers pushed it to 5-4 in the top of the fourth and added three more in the fifth to lead 8-4.
Northwestern added two in the top of the sixth to make it 10-4 before Stevens made it 10-5 when he led off the bottom of the sixth with his third home run of the year. Dillon Feland drove home the final two runs of the inning to cut the deficit to 10-7 with a single to center. The Rangers though pushed five across the plate in the top of the seventh to increase the lead to 15-7.
Stevens hit his second home run of the game with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to cut the deficit to 15-8, but the Rangers answered with three in the eighth to lead 18-8 and held SNU scoreless in the bottom half to secure the win.
Jefferson Harris (1-5) got the start and took the loss after he gave up eight runs, seven earned, on nine hits in five innings of work.
